Working with multiple agencies

This page is to share our experiences with the different agencies that we engage with as a family seeking support.

My first comment on this page is to share my pet hate.  When you need to engage with support services for a child with special needs, they complete a needs assessment.  This is regardless of how recently you may have done this with another agency.  This is regardless of whether all this information is in a file on their lap/ desk.

What this means is that you have to talk negatively about your child repeatedly and yet again!  Now don't leave out any important details because that might effect your service or funding!!  Also vitally important that you don't talk positively and tell them that you are coping just fine and that everyone is great - you will get no support services!

This whole experience is traumatising and frequently repeated.  In our case, we have three children currently living with us who require support services so this experience just multiplies and is exhausting.  Talking for an hour doesn't tell my whole story either.
